Either distillation or deionization / reverse osmosis systems will produce high quality purified water for most peoples needs. Most industrial, commercial and residentally installed R.O. systems do produce water that conforms to USP specifications, and some... for laboratory pouposes may also distill that water. Certain analyses require freshly distilled water ( that hasn't drawn carbon dioxide from the air). Nanopure(TM), or similar, ion trapping system can further help if you need ultrapure water. Above certain volumes, R.O. is much cheaper than distilled. Either way you go, there will be some system maintenance to consider. You will be removing impurities, which have to end up somewhere (in your filters or in your apparatus). Pure water , rather than tap... when used for cleaning machinery and equipment can greatly reduce overall maintenance costs in many factory works, labs and print shops. For most uses, R.O. is sufficient, provided the system is properly maintained. |
